Now a days it is very easy for students to learn classroom lessons via the internet. For example last year in my chemistry class if we missed a class our teacher would record the lesson on an app called educreations for us to watch and listen. This helped me a lot because I was gone a lot for volleyball and doctors appointments so being able to not actually fall behind in class helped my grade a lot. Also there is many apps and sites for us to have a lesson taught to us. Technology definitely is on the rise and becoming even more powerful. Technology, when used right, such as using it for students to learn or teachers to teach, can be so powerful!

I think this is an inspiring way to get ideas from employees of Google, because this is how things are made after all, through passion. Although just because I like this idea in the workplace doesn't necessarily mean I like the idea for the classroom. I just don't think students would actually do it, and not everyone truly knows what they are "passionate" about. I personally cannot think of anything that I am so passionate about that I could take 20% of my school day to work on. If I had to think of a few things to work on that I am passionate about if I was give one day each week, I would be able to narrow it down to three categories: volunteerism/leadership, medical work, and maybe writing a short story. For volunteerism/leadership I would think of different ways we could better our school and community, such as making us more "college positive". For medical work I would learn of new procedures and how to do certain things. And lastly for writing a short story, this is always something I wanted to do but have always been discouraged by my friends or peers. Helena M. Broden
I am a Junior at Norway High School in Mrs.Jacqueline Leiker's Multimedia Class. How many US highways are there in the Upper Peninsula? A. 4 B. 5 C. 8 D. 7 Correct answer is B, 5. I found my answer on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_Peninsula_of_Michigan
I think it is important to know your school is offering such technology courses that they offer, because truly, technology is the future. I think its extremely important to take these classes. Even if you have no desire to know new technology it may give you a significant raise because you know how to use a certain program or maybe computer better than other people who have the same job as you. In my high school career, so far, I have taken Mirco, where I learned the Microsoft Office programs, and MultiMedia, where I have learned many different apps and programs to advance my knowledge of technology, and I love MultiMedia! I currently do not plan to take anymore technology classes because I do not have the room in my schedule to add a technology class. I am enrolled to take Health Occupations Core where I will become a Certified Nurses Assistant. In this class I will learn technology things too like such as an AED that is used to get the rhythms of the heart or to shock someone if their heart stops working, it may not seem like technology but did we have these 100 years ago? No. So this is a technological advance! This is an amazing advance in technology! Using brain waves to have people with ALS or an amputated limb be able to use their limbs again is amazing! This is huge! Can you imagine how great this is for a person who has never had legs to walk? Or maybe to use their hands if he/she was never able to use them before! There is nothing to lose from supporting this, this is a huge benefit for individuals now! Some people might be skeptical to have this procedure done, but what could you lose? This is such a cool thing technology has offered for us. Advances like this just shows us how close we must be to curing things like cancer, multiple sclerosis, or other chronic illnesses. "Khan Academy is an organization on a mission. We're a not-for-profit with the goal of changing education for the better by providing a free world-class education for anyone anywhere. All of the site's resources are available to anyone. It doesn't matter if you are a student, teacher, home-schooler, principal, adult returning to the classroom after 20 years, or a friendly alien just trying to get a leg up in earthly biology. Khan Academy's materials and resources are available to you completely free of charge." Says Salman Khan the founder and owner of Khan Academy. I think anyone can benefit from Khan Academy, students, teachers, parents, literally anyone! I think this is a great program if you don't understand a concept in a class, for example I don't completely understand my Economics class and I found helpful videos on Khan that were relatively short and easy to follow. They really put the concept that I wasn't understanding out there for me! I love it and would recommend it to anyone! This year Norway-Vulcan area schools offered each and everyone of their students with an iPad. We are now a one-to-one school district. When we first received our iPads not many teachers had anything planned for us to use on them for class, so this was very frustrating to hear a teacher or staff member yell at us for "only using our iPads for games and not 'learning purposes'". Okay now, we haven't been given an online assignment for us to use for our iPads. I am not trying to defend myself but I think that if the staff member wants us to use them for more educational purposes they need to provide of with those things, assign us an online assignment. I am motivated to learn from my iPad but until the staff provides us with the proper assessment tools.
I think it's super important to keep the spirit of Christmas alive, especially in young children. Soon they won't believe in "Santa" and they won't look forward to it as much. Some students might not even get to celebrate it much because their family can't afford to buy presents, so their parents might not celebrate at all. At school then, they can celebrate it and enjoy the Christmas spirit festivities. Creating family traditions makes Christmas a special time for children and sharing their joy helps parents overcome their Yuletide yawns. I wish they did something like celebrating the spirit of Christmas in the High School as they do in the Elementary School. Christmas is the most magical and wonderful time of the year. It's not just about the religion aspect of Christmas either. No matter what religion or culture you come from, watching the lighting of the tree in New York's Rockerfeller Center is an awesome experience. I think it gives kids and adults a wider resepect for others cultures if they understand the religious background of Christmas.
I learned how to code when I completed the Code.org challenge. I found this very interesting, I don't think I could pursue this as a career though. There is probably a huge push for this in high school because so many people are needed for this, as our technology advances every day there is a larger demand for people with the ability to code on a computer or device. I didn't sign the pledge on the page only because I didn't even see the pledge. Now that I know about "the pledge" I will go back to the website and sign the pledge because I think this should get more exposure in schools. You and I can make a difference.
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary who was imprisoned for 27 years and then became a politician and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. His tragic story of his life is in 1962 he was arrested, convicted of conspiracy to overthrow the government, and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Rivonia Trial. Mandela served 27 years in prison, initally on Robben Island, and later in Pollsmoor Prison and Victor Verster Prison. He was released from Prison because of strong public protesting. Mandela was married three times, fathered six children, had 17 grandchildren and a growing number of great-grandchildren. He could be stern and demanding of his children, although he was more affectionate with his grandchildren. Apartheid was a system of racial segregation in South Africa enforced through legislation by the National Party governments, the ruling party from 1948 to 1994, under which the rights of the majority. Reforms to apartheid in the 1980s failed to quell the mounting opposition, and in 1990 President Frederik Willem de Klerk began negotiations to end apartheid, culminating in multi-racial democratic elections in 1994, won by the African National Congress under Nelson Mandela. The vestiges of apartheid still shape South African politics and society. Although the official abolishing of apartheid occurred in 1990 with repeal of the last of the remaining apartheid laws, the end of apartheid is widely regarded as arising from the 1994 democratic general elections. He died of a lung infection December 5, 2013 in his home in Johannesburg.
It is important to know figures like him because it is people like him who make a difference in the world, and not just in one country. |
